Overall, a decent campground with excellent lake views and lake access within close walking distance of all the camp sites. The interior roads and spots were mostly dirt that had once been gravel. The sites were a little too close to each other, but not horrible. No cable or wi-fi. You had to buy a separate fishing license from the Indian tribe to fish there. On the plus side, I could easily carry my kayak to the lake edge from my campsite. The place is really quiet with great views. Also, there is a restaurant and casino about a half mile away with a ferry that takes you across the lake to the London Bridge.

“Tye RV Park” in Tye, Texas – was rated: 7
Nice folks run this RV Park. They were very helpful as we came in after dark, and he led us to our site. The site was very flat with easy hook up. Since we were staying one night we took the site without sewer. Laundry room was close, and machines were in good shape; $2 a load. It was a warm night in the 70′s. The park was easy to find and fairly close to the freeway. We would stay there again.

“Van Horn KOA” in Van Horn, Texas – was rated: 7
Very nice for a KOA. Off the highway so it was quiet. Operators were so nice, helpful and friendly. There is zero shade, so for us, we would not want to be here in the hot weather. As always, compared to so many other parks, KOA is expensive from our point of view.

“Douthat State Park” in Clifton Forge, Virginia – was rated: 7
This is an average park. The sites are adequate although some of the larger rigs may find it difficult to impossible to set up. The size of the sites are not consistent so it’s somewhat of a chance to get the right size. There are no laundry facilities available which is becoming common at state parks. The bathroom facilities are worn out, and I wasn’t comfortable with the cleanliness of them- – I opted not to use them. I enjoyed hiking the trails, and the lake (too bad the campsites at the lake do not have electricity) is very nice. My biggest complaint is not with this specific park but with the State of Virginia. They have increased the pet fee to $5 per pet per night. For me this is an additional $10 per night. I do not have the maximum number of people allowed in my party (6) and figure my regular nightly fee is already inflated because I’m not using the resources (electricity and water) the State has estimated to base their fee. My dogs don’t use extra electricity, and the water they do drink is less than the maximum number of people allowance. So why the excessive charge for pets? I can only assume the state is trying to use the pet fee to deter people from bringing their pets. These comments have also been sent to the State from me. Sadly, I’ll have to rethink my visits to the VA State park system. Their fees are close to a private campground fee which would include cable and Wi-Fi.

“Klamath River RV Park” in Klamath, California – was rated: 9
This place has an awesome setting, right on the river.It is one of the cleanest parks we’ve ever been to. Had it not been for our Passport America discount we wouldn’t have stopped here. Now we will go back every time. They have nice trails for walking the dogs.

“Lake Minden – NACO” in Nicolaus, California – was rated: 6
A big family resort with lake and many activities. Only a few of the sites are full hookups, most big rigs opted for “D” area, no sewer but plenty of room. Dump sites were available when needed, and a honey wagon would service your RV also. A quiet place about 25 minutes from Sacramento.

“Ohio Turnpike Rest Stop-Portage” in Portage, Ohio – was rated: 5
Convenience of this facility is unexcelled. We spent the night and drove right over to the diesel truck pumps. This is a service provided by Ohio and has 12-15 sites with 15 amp service and water. We easily backed our 42′ motorhome into the spot and parked the car next to it with plenty of room to spare. I cannot speak of the rest stop restaurant or bathrooms. Payment is made into a box upon which a parking pass is given. Close to the highway and trucks entering the fuel and rest area, but we slept well.No other RVs were present.
