Grilled Shrimp And Cheese Ball
This recipe is one I learned while working in a very prestigious Washington DC hotel. The guest who enjoyed this so much was a famous politician. He would request this cheese ball every time he visited. Ever since then, I have claimed it as mine.
Ingredients for Shrimp Cheese Ball
1 lb medium-size fresh shrimp – unpeeled*
1 8-oz. pkg. Cream cheese – softened
1 Tablespoon prepared horseradish
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons grated onion
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
2 tablespoon fresh parsley -chopped
dash of salt, pepper, old bay
How you do it.
Season your shrimp with salt and pepper and some old bay seasoning and place on hot grill.
Grill your shrimp for 3 minutes on all sides and remove and let cool down.
Peel and d-vein the shrimp then chop into bite-size pieces.
Combine shrimp, cream cheese, horseradish, lemon juice onion and liquid smoke in a bowl;
stir well.
Cover and chill 1 hour.
Shape the chilled shrimp mixture into a single ball then wrap in non-stick wrap and chill thoroughly.
Add your parsley; roll the ball into one
Place on serving plate and serve with assorted crackers.
I love this recipe so much, I use it whenever I have guest over for a small party. You can make this at least a day in advance and place in your fridge until the party. You can also substitute smoked trout or even smoked chicken. This will sure to be a great party dish for you and your guest.

Shrimp Captain Attempts Arrest of BP Hayward at Washington Hearing
www.huffingtonpost.com Gulf commercial shrimper Diane Wilson was arrested for interrupting BP CEO Tony Hayward’s testimony on Capitol Hill. Hayward barely started his opening statement when Wilson, painted to look like she had oil on her, shouted, “”You need to be charged with a crime!” Wilson was joined by other members of Code Pink, a protest group that she co-founded. The group also held a demonstration the day prior in front of the White House, where Hayward was meeting with President Obama. Wilson was arrested last week when she interrupted another congressional hearing on the Gulf oil spill by pouring syrup on herself. Photos and video of the protests from today and yesterday are below.

D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals Rules in Favor of Landowners

Washington, DC (PRWEB) July 25, 2011
The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals has invalidated a rule designating 143 acres of valuable commercial property in San Diego, California as critical habitat for an endangered speciesthe San Diego fairy shrimp. Fridays decision reversed a ruling on summary judgment in favor of the Fish and Wildlife Service in May 2010 by the D.C. District Court in Otay Mesa Property, LP v. U.S. Department of Interior, Case No. 09-383. Nancie Marzulla, attorney for the landowners and partner at Marzulla Law, LLC, is enthusiastic about the recent opinion.
We are pleased that the appellate court agreed that occupied should mean just that, and not whatever the agency argues it should mean, said Ms. Marzulla. This land should never have been designated as critical habitat in the first place.
Describing the endangered fairy shrimp as a crustacean about the size of an ant and a lifespan of 30 days, the appellate court based its ruling on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife’s failure to demonstrate that the land designated was in fact occupied, as required by the Endangered Species Act. The court noted that the agency had erroneously based its critical habitat designation on an isolated sighting of four fairy shrimp found in a tire rut on a heavily traveled dirt road. That was the only sighting, despite numerous visits to the property both before and after the one isolated sighting.
As described in footnote 1 of the D.C. Circuit’s opinion, the agency tried to bolster its slim to none evidence for the presence of fairy shrimp by pointing to the finding of Riverside fairy shrimp on the property, speculating that some of that fairy shrimp could be presumed to be San Diego fairy shrimp. The court of appeals concluded that presumed occupied was not the same as actually occupied.
Marzulla Law, LLC is one of the nations leading law firms in helping property owners resolve federal environmental issues. ML also represents clients in environmental enforcement actions and litigation involving natural resources and permitting issues, in federal district courts and courts of appeal. Nancie Marzulla has been selected by her peers to be included on the list of Best Lawyers in America, and ML has the highest AV rating from Martindale-Hubble.

About Shoppers Food
Shoppers Food & Pharmacy (also known as Shoppers Food Warehouse) is a chain of 65 supermarkets in Baltimore, Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. areas. Shoppers has fresh produce, Swift Angus beef, Smithfield natural pork, all-natural chicken, Dietz & Watson delis, fresh seafood, steamed shrimp, as well as hot foods, full service pharmacies and in store full service banks.
Shoppers is thought to have derived several now-common supermarket features, such as warehouse shelving (no longer utilized in new stores), open-bin bulk foods (also no longer found in the chain), large salad bars with hot prepared foods and specialized fans to keep produce fresh, and “warehouse-sized” packaged products. Shoppers also was one of the first chains to sell all of its produce by the pound, rather than by the item, which is now common. This prevented the “picked-over” selection of produce commonly found in conventional supermarkets several days after a produce delivery.
Shoppers Food & Pharmacy had its roots in a store opened in 1929 by founders Irving Herman and his younger brother, Kenneth Herman, at Vermont and V St, NW, Washington, D.C. The earliest Jumbo Food Store was in operation as early as May 1952 at 3439 Benning Rd N.E., Washington, D.C., and was the former River Terrace Super Market. The Herman brothers were joined by their brother-in-law, Sam Levin, and a location in Seat Pleasant, Maryland at 401 Eastern Ave opened shortly after. On October 1, 1958, the store at 2400 University Blvd, E., in the Adelphi Shopping Center opened in Adelphi, Maryland, and even after being gutted by a fire in 1994, remained a Shoppers Food Warehouse until its closure in spring 2011.
The Herman brothers opened the first Shoppers Food Warehouse in 1978 as a foray into the warehouse supermarket business. The original concept brought the Washington area its first non-membership chain in the area to offer an expanded selection of large-packaged (or “warehouse-sized”) products at a lower, bulk price. Shoppers eliminated all but two to three sizes of each product, to allow a greater selection of different brands on a typical shelf, and to further lower prices. Using warehouse shelving and leaving packaged goods in their boxes on the shelves. The reduction of retail labor also allowed a much lower price to be passed to the consumer. Since changing hands from the company founders, it has developed into a more conventional supermarket model with more conventional pricing.
In April 1998, Richfood Holdings Inc., a regional wholesale distributor, purchased Shoppers Foods. SuperValu acquired Richfood Holdings in 1999, in part to acquire the Shoppers brand, which was by then the third largest supermarket chain in the Washington, D.C. region in sales and volume.
